PITT PARK HISTORY

During this section of the project the group looked back into the social history of the lower newtownards road area from the start of the century to the present day. During the 12 week project the group first focused on the amount of local residents of the area who gave their lives fighting in many different battlefields for the british crown over the last 100 years Workshops also focused on what living conditions and family life were like for local people living in the same area as they do today. Other topics covered in the course included key social and local potilitial issues from the 1920s, the second world war, the troubles from  1969 to 1994 and right up to the current flag protests.The group were also made aware of the impacts that those issues have had on the local people in regrards to family life, jobs and the ecomony and also to housing and regeneration. Throughtout the course the group enjoyed several field trips to museums and places of historical interest relevant to the course.
