Barge project

The 12 week project with the barge included facilitated workshops focused around the industrial and maritime history of Belfast. This was undertaken by the very knowledgable staff at the Belfast barge. During the course the group were taught all about the history of the docks and shipyard area over the last several 100 years. The group then looked into how much Belfast shipbuilding and maritime life has changed over the last 100 years. The group seen photos and heard first hand from the workers of the vast numbers of local people who made their way to the docks area each day for work and also how this has sadly declined over the last 40 years.  The group then had a go at interviewing some of the past shipyard and dock workers. This part of the project allowed them to try out some of the skills they had been taught in interviewing people recording sound and filming the interview. The group also helped set up the camera equipment and lighting for all the interviews they conducted during the project
