teenage Dreams Project
Teenage Dreams was a 2 pronged project which came about after D.S.D removed the Teenage Kicks mural from the Bridge End flyover.
A social media campaign then started to have the mural put back in place and after many months and many meetings plus the fact that several thousand people had voting online to have the mural put back up on the wall. A meeting was then held between all intrested stakeholders who included D.S.D, B.C.C, E.B.P, OH YEAH MUSIC, URBAN VILLAGES, DOYLE YOUTH CLUB and BALLYMAC we also had help from Chris Little M.L.A. who helped push the project along. After several meetings between all involved the idea of getting the young people from both clubs and both sides of the interface involved in a project that would be positive and engage the young people to learn new skills and also help to keep them away from getting involved in trouble along the interface. The 2 parts of the project were art and music in whch the young people would get the chance to design the new mural and also make a music track to go along with the theme they had chosen for the project which was Making changes. The young people then split into 2 cross community groups 1 art and 2 music for the 6 month project. Group 1 worked with local aerosol artists Blaze fx to design the making changes mural for the city side of the flyover. Group 2 worked with rocky from OH YEAH music and were taken through each step of the process of making a music track. The group enjoyed being shown and working with all the equipment that is used in the music business and then made their first bit of music with the young people both writing and preforming the lyrics on the finished track. The project was a great success and all the young people involved greatly benefitted from learning a whole new range of skills from art and mural painting to working in a studio and on equipment that enabled them to make their own music track.
Big thanks go’s out from Ballymac to all involved in making this project happen especially the young people involved you done yourselves proud.
